"Defeat makes the victories that much sweeter ..."
4-6-08
Last week I ended with these words... This week they came to fruition. Richard and the 85 Motorsports team broke through in a big way, and made the hard work of the past few weeks pay off with a victory.
The night started off great when Richard drew the front row of his heat race. Richard got the jump, and lead the entire heat race until a slight bobble in the final turn cost him the victory.
Luck was again on Richard's side as an invert of 6 once again landed him on the pole position for the feature event. This time the crew went to work to give him a car that would keep him there. Richard treated the car to a rare "new tire" on the LR, the crew made a few adjustments, and it was ready to go.
After several attempted starts, Richard would get the jump at the drop of the green. Richard would lead the first 2 laps uncontested, but soon had all the pressure he could handle. Young Dylan Yoder was pulling up on the inside and would run door to door with Richard for the entire race. Lap after lap, turn after turn, the two car deuled with Richard running the top and Yoder on the bottom. The two would catch a lap car on lap 18 that gave Richard the slightest advantage, and Richard rode that advantage to the first win of the year.
It was an emotional fight in which both contestants left everything they had on the track without so much as a single rub. Both driver and team were exhausted from the effort, but jubilant to return to victory lane, and give thanks to the sponsors. The crushing defeat of destroying a racecar still fresh in their minds, it was nice to taste the sweet nectar of victory.
To our sponsors, thank you for all of your support. Moments like this are why we race, and we could not do it without every one of you! No matter what the contribution, we truly appreciate everything that you do for us in allowing us to show what hard work and perseverance can achieve.
Next week we return to Hagerstown to attempt a repeat performance.
Of course the team is always looking
for additional support. We
are currently working on a few deals that would help our program
immensely, but our effort is tireless in not only finding help
for our team, but also promoting sponsors once they join
the team.
If you would like to join the 85 Motorsports
team, please contact Jason @ 717-377-4907. We may be a
Late Model Sportsman team, but as you can see, we don't promote
like it.
